Evaluation - Question 4

Audience Feedback

In order to gain audience feedback we had to create a questionnaire. We got a focus group together so that they could see all of our work and then answer the questions. Then we uploaded our work to facebook so that we could get more feedback to see if our target audience likes the production or not. These are the questions our group came up with:

1. After watching the 5 minute documentary, would you watch the rest of the programme?
2. What did you like the most about our documentary?
3. What did you like the least about our documentary?
4. Do you think the music was relevant to the documentary?
5. Do you think that the documentary was put well together?
6. Did you like the song choices?
7. What did you think about the quality of the interviews?
8. Do you think that the newspaper advert is attention grabbing?
9. What do you think of the slogan?
10. After listening to the radio trailer, would you want to watch our documentary?

Screen Grabs of Newspaper Advert

Poppy created the newspaper advert but we all decided and approved the planning

These are the pictures that were taken for our advert:

Screen Grabs of Music Company Emails

To get copyright approval we had to email the record companies to get permission to use the music we had selected. However RCA Label don't give out their email address so we had to use twitter in order to get in contact with them instead. But, they have yet to reply as to whether we can use the music or not.

Voiceover and Radio Trailer

Here we have created a video which explains about the voiceover we used and the narration that we used for the radio trailer, including the clips we actually used for the voiceover in our documentary.

Editing

This week I began to do the editing, whilst Poppy created the print advert and Amal the radio trailer. I had to put the music and the voiceover on and then sort the sound levels out throughout the documentary so that it was all in stereo. Plus I had to create another montage with the footage we had left to put before the second vox pop question so that it would make sense. Finally I needed to make sure that the graphics were all on screen for the same length of time.

Codes and Conventions of a Radio Trailer

  • The average length is 30 seconds
  • It gives the scheduling information at the end of the trailer. The sequence is: title - date and time - channel
  • For the voiceover, the narrator outlines the narrative, whereby they may pose questions that will be answered in the programme
  • Direct address is used as it uses personal pronouns like 'you' to intrigue the audience
  • Extracts from the programme are used
  • Sound effects were appropriate
  • Music bed were appropriate
  • Contains the slogan

Codes and Conventions of a Newspaper Advert

  • A4 landscape (versatile shape)
  • Contains one main image which is striking and sums up the programme
  • The text on the advert includes: slogan, title and the scheduling information
  • Has the TV channel's logo

Editing

This week our group captured all the footage, logged it and decided what was going to be put on our edit decision list. Then we began to start the editing process.

Filming - Interview With Psychology Teacher

Today we interviewed a psychology and questioned him about what fear is and we also asked about why we are afraid of things such as spiders. I think this went well, as the framing was correctly done and was in big close-up, plus the answers he gave us were very detailed and we could definitely use some of these in our documentary.

Filming - Fears for Montage

Today we needed to film some more fears for our montage at the beginning of our documentary. We filmed a dog barking, ducks, the beach and seagulls that were there. We felt that the stuff we filmed could be used, but for some we would not use, because in parts the camera moved because of the wind.

Filming - Spiders Interview

Today in school we decided to interview people who are afraid of spiders. We interviewed three people, male and female. After we had finished asking them they questions we asked them to lift up the bowl in front of them to see what was underneath, which, was fake spiders so that we could film how they would react. However when we looked back at what we filmed we decided we will need to do it again another day, as we did not like the framing and we wanted to bring in a real spider to show the interviewee's to see how they actually would react when faced with a spider.

Filming - Tall Buildings Interview and Vox Pops

Today our group went over to Liverpool to film our vox pops and the interview with Aislynn; who has a fear of tall buildings. To begin with we asked her a couple of questions about how she was feeling on the bus journey to Liverpool, before we interviewed her in front of the Anglican Cathedral. We also filmed some footage of the Cathedral as well as some of the Radio City tower. Afterwards we then went to the centre and filmed our vox pops of both men and women. Some went well but others weren't as good because the people held their microphone too high, however we thought that the interview with Aislynn went well as she answered all our questions and some were quite detailed.

Filming - Interview with the Hypnotherapist

Today we went to interview the hypnotherapist and we thought it went quite well as his answers were detailed and they fully answered out questions. We filmed him in medium close up and framed him to the left. However, to begin with the framing was not too good so we rearranged and started again. The mise-en-scene was just a plain wall so that the audience could focus on what the hypnotherapist was saying, and he sat in a comfy chair which is what his patients would sit in.

Filming - Petshop

Today we went back to the petshop to get some more footage of the snakes and mice. We also got some of the lizards and spiders as well. We can use this footage either as part of a montage or as cutaways during interviews, therefore I feel that it went well as we gathered plenty of footage that we can use. We mainly got close-ups and big-close ups of the animals that were there which includes; spiders, rodents, snakes, hampsters, lizards and fish.
